No crowds this Palm Sunday
No witnesses to Jesus’ triumphal entry
No crowds to shout loud hosanna.
In the courts of the powerful crucifixions are still planned.
Better to snatch him in the darkness of the garden when he is alone.
Crowds yelling crucify are not essential
they can manufacture the consent after--
tearing off Jesus’ reputation and tossing dice for it.
They will justify what they have done.
There is no one to shout Ecce Homo this Good Friday.
Jesus dies alone.
No one to accompany Mary as she grieves.
No one allowed to prepare the body
No one allowed to visit the tomb.
Even so
Jesus arrives in our Upper Rooms
speaking strange peace.
